Tesla Roadster Interface Reveals Thruster Readouts Ahead of 2028 Launch

A new software walkthrough highlights the fighter-jet-inspired dashboard and high-pressure thruster status indicators of the upcoming electric vehicle.

Tesla has provided the automotive market with its most detailed glimpse yet into the digital cockpit of the next-generation Roadster. On Friday afternoon, the company released a 34-second video on X that walks through the vehicle’s primary touchscreen interface. The presentation, captioned with the note that the design is inspired by fighter jet cockpits and centered on the pilot, offers a preview of the user experience for prospective buyers.

The core of the new development is the integration of high-performance telemetry directly into the main display. The footage focuses heavily on a dedicated Track Mode, which presents a live circuit map, session lap times, and real-time data for brake and motor temperatures. Crucially, the screen displays individual pressure and temperature readouts for each tire, alongside a setup page that allows drivers to toggle stability and traction control off and adjust aero and brake balances.

A key financial and technical indicator appears in the status bar at the bottom of the screen, which reads “Thruster · 5,500 PSI” next to a “Boost Ready” signal. This software element directly corresponds to the hardware Tesla unveiled near Waco, Texas, on October 15. The Thrust and Rocket variants of the vehicle utilize cold gas thrusters powered by carbon-overwrapped pressure vessels, a system designed to achieve 0-to-60 mph acceleration times of under 0.9 seconds and under 0.59 seconds, respectively.

The interface represents a strategic departure from the company’s existing product line. Unlike the map-centric layouts found in other Tesla models, the Roadster’s home screen features a 3D wireframe of the car itself. Tapping various parts of this model brings up controls for the rear wing, including settings for low drag and high downforce, as well as a charging page with limit bars. A standard row of tabs for Home, Vehicle, Listen, Climate, and Navigate runs along the bottom, maintaining familiar navigation while adapting to the vehicle's specific needs.

For the base Performance model, which relies on a fan and ground sealing system rather than thrusters, the on-screen aero settings align with the active wings and suction setup previously analyzed. This suggests a unified software architecture that adapts to the specific mechanical configuration of each of the three Roadster versions: Performance, Thrust, and Rocket.

However, significant caveats remain regarding the vehicle's availability and regulatory status. Tesla’s Roadster page indicates that the flagship Rocket version is not yet approved for public road use. The Thrust version is listed as a limited release, while the Rocket is invite-only. Reservations are currently open with a $50,000 payment, positioning the vehicle as a premium asset in the high-performance electric segment.

Production timelines remain a key market variable. Elon Musk stated at the recent event that Roadster production is scheduled to begin in 2028. Until then, the interface could still undergo changes before final delivery. It remains unclear whether any of the advanced Track Mode telemetry seen in the video will eventually trickle down to other vehicles in Tesla’s lineup, such as the Model 3 Performance.

The public will have its first opportunity to inspect the physical hardware this weekend. From October 24 to 27, the Roadster will be displayed in the lobby of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. According to Sawyer Merritt, this marks the first time the vehicle will be viewable up close by the general public, offering a tangible counterpoint to the digital preview provided earlier in the week.
