Apple Locks iPhone Duo Fast Charging Behind 60W Adapter Requirement

The dual-screen phone hits 50% capacity in twenty minutes only when paired with specific power hardware, a constraint detailed in new support documentation.

Apple has outlined strict hardware requirements for the fastest charging speeds on its new iPhone Duo, a move that may force consumers to purchase additional accessories. The company’s support pages specify that the headline charging rates depend entirely on the power source used.

The documentation states that the device can reach 50 percent battery capacity in approximately twenty minutes via a wired connection. To achieve this speed, users must utilize the USB-C cable included in the box alongside a power adapter rated for at least 60 watts. Apple identifies its own 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max as a compliant option, listing it at $34.

Third-party adapters are also acceptable if they meet specific technical standards. The guidance requires that external chargers support Adjustable Voltage Supply and USB Power Delivery 3.2. For wireless charging, the speed drops to a 30-minute duration for a 50 percent charge. This method requires either a MagSafe Charger priced at $30 or an adapter with a minimum 35-watt output. Apple recommends compatible units from its own lineup or from Anker.

Reviewers note that third-party options often provide better value than first-party hardware. One writer suggests that Anker’s 100-watt charging brick serves as a versatile alternative, capable of powering Macs and iPads in addition to the iPhone. The analyst acknowledges that the discounted 40-watt Apple adapter remains a viable choice for those preferring official hardware. A 2-meter USB-C cable from Apple is also available at a reduced price for users needing extra reach.

The new specifications create a clear division between standard and rapid charging performance. Buyers must now weigh the convenience of the included cable against the cost of the required power bricks to unlock the device’s full potential.
