Apple’s iPhone Duo is available now, but buyers must spend an additional $249 on specific hardware to unlock core functionality. The total cost covers the Apple Pencil, a high-wattage charger, and a security camera. These items are not included in the box and are required for the phone’s most advertised features.
The device arrived as Apple’s first foldable smartphone. The company designed the interface around the proportions of a standard A-series paper notebook. This design choice makes the stylus a central component of the user experience rather than an optional add-on.
Apple Pencil support is scheduled to arrive in the iOS 27.2 update next week. Only the USB-C model is compatible, and it allows users to write notes and sketch on both the outer and inner displays. The device is currently listed at $69, a reduction from its standard $79 price.
Fast charging capabilities also depend on external hardware. The phone can reach 50 percent battery in about 20 minutes, but only when paired with a suitable power adapter. The retail box includes a USB-C cable but no charger. Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter costs $34, while Anker offers a 100W USB-C charger with a five-foot cable for $29.
The Duo’s upgraded StandBy mode provides access to smart home controls even when the phone is not charging. Two specific views, Home Camera and Home Modular, allow users to monitor security feeds. To use these features, owners need HomeKit-compatible hardware. Recommended options include the Aqara G100 2K camera at $39 and a eufy 4K camera at $69.
Additional accessories are available for navigation and protection. ESR’s MagSafe Car Mount, which holds the phone magnetically to an air vent, is priced at $19. Several case options exist, ranging from third-party magnetic cases at $29 to Apple’s own Folio with Kickstand at $129. A clear MagSafe-compatible case from Spigen costs $39.
AirPods Pro 3 are also recommended for buyers seeking audio upgrades. The device offers noise cancellation that aids focus during work. They are currently on sale at Amazon for $199, down from their regular $249 price.
